About The Catch,
and how we check
The Catch is a small family of fact-checking channels. Each short takes a claim that is going around, finds the original source behind it, and explains what that source actually says, in plain English. Every one of them ends on the same question: what's the catch?
- The Catch AI: Viral AI claims and new dev tools, checked against the actual papers, benchmarks and official docs. (6 shorts)
- The Catch Science: Viral health and science claims, checked against the actual studies. (71 shorts)
Every short gets a page on this site with the full story: the numbers, where each one comes from, and the limits that don't fit in sixty seconds.
How we check
- Primary sources only. We read the paper, the trial registry, the benchmark or the official documentation, not the press release or a summary thread. Every number in a video and on this site traces to a source we read, and every post lists those sources in full.
- No overclaiming. "Linked to" for observational studies, "in mice" for animal studies, "in the docs" for a documented number, and "not statistically significant" when it wasn't.
- Always a catch. Sample size, a benchmark versus real work, who paid for it, what a tool costs you. Every post has one, including the ones about things we like.
- Our own words and visuals. Narration and pages are written fresh. Every visual is drawn in code or is a real screenshot of the source.
Corrections
If we got something wrong, tell us in a comment or a DM on any of our channels, and include the source. We fix the page and note the correction at the bottom of the post.
Affiliate disclosure
Some posts may link to tools through affiliate links. When a link is an affiliate link, it says so right next to it: I earn a commission if you buy through this link. It never costs you more, and it never changes the catch: the limits section stays honest whether or not we earn anything from a product.
Right now there are no affiliate links anywhere on this site.
Not advice
The Catch is educational. Science posts are not medical advice: talk to a qualified health professional before changing your diet, supplements or treatment. AI and dev-tool posts are not security, legal or financial advice.
